The working principle of peristaltic pump is easy to understand, just like squeezing a tube full of liquid with two fingers one by one. When the finger slides forward, the liquid inside the tube will flow forward with the finger. Peristaltic pumps work the same way, except they use rollers inside the pump head instead of fingers.
The fluid is pumped by alternately squeezing and releasing the pump's flexible delivery hose. Like squeezing a hose between two fingers, as the fingers move, negative pressure forms inside the tube and the liquid flows with it. Peristaltic pump is a "pillow" shaped fluid formed in a pump tube between two rotating rollers. The volume of the "pillow" depends on the inner diameter of the pump tube and the geometry of the rotor.
The flow rate of peristaltic pump depends on the product of three parameters: the rotation speed of the pump head and the size of the "pillow", and the number of "pillows" produced by the rotor per revolution. The size of the "pillow" is generally constant (except in special cases, such as transporting a fluid with high viscosity). Compared with pumps with the same rotor diameter, a pump with a larger "pillow" volume has a larger volume of fluid transported by its rotor per revolution, but the pulsation degree is also larger.
